Penang Run 2017

Starting point at Padang Kota lama
A civil defence member from Taiping came visiting
Penang Run 2017 is my second marathon participation even though it is already July now which shows how inactive I am taking part in running event this year. Maybe it is partly due to my persistence heels and knee pain which limit my pace of running. Well, Penang run is surely a replay of Malakoff run which I took part few years ago because the routes are quite similar. It is during Malakoff run that I achieved my fastest pace or 5 minutes plus per km which I will never dream to achieve now.

Seok Wan and I both registered for the 21km category even though she hardly practise running except brisk walking one or twice per week sometimes up to 7km. But I am still not at ease to let her run on her own. We started our run from behind and paced slowly together. It is a surprise Seok Wan could run without stop for more than one hour before we started to walk and run. It is the walk and run that cause my knee to suffer besides it takes a long distance for me to achieve my normal running pace after stopping. So I was lagging behind after the 16 km mark. I tried to catch up with her but she seemed to have a lot of energy. I should have more energy because I consumed three packets of high five energy gel but she did not even  consume the one given by the organiser. This is my poorest performance except my first half marathon. I crossed the line after 3 hours 8 minutes while Seok Wan was 3 minutes faster. This is the second time Seok Wan crossed the finishing line before me in half marathon.

Trying to race with a Mat Rempit ?
The run was quite an enjoyable one because we not only run through the streets in downtown Georgetown, the malay village near Tanjong Tokong, high class residential estate on sea-reclaimed land and Gurney drive. As we started our run at 5.30 am, there is little traffic and less polluted air. Further more we managed to reached the finishing line without feeling the heat from the sunlight.
Only 16 km after more than 2 hours
